Independent businesses and national retailers from across the North East of England can enter 2019 knowing that their businesses are becoming safer for staff and shoppers thanks to the partnership between SentrySIS and the North East Retail Crime Partnership (NERCP).

During Summer of 2018, the NERCP have been using SentrySIS as their crime reduction and monitoring software to help manage a series of shopwatch schemes and crime partnerships across the North East of England.

Since the NERCP took over the management of Darlington Businesses Against Crime (DBAC) in Spring 2018, the SentrySIS & NERCP partnership has expanded at a rapid rate to gain an even greater coverage across the North East of England. This has allowed businesses to share crime data securely with each other and receive crime intelligence from the NERCP’s crime gathering network.

SentrySIS has become the go-to crime reduction software for over 130 retailers located in the North East. Businesses situated in Barnard Castle, Bishop Auckland, Byker, Chester-le-street, Consett, Coulby Newham, Cramlington, Durham, Gateshead, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Newcastle, North Allerton, Peterlee, Redcar, South Shields, Spennymoor, Stockton-on-Tees, Sunderland and Whitley Bay can all have access to the system by joining the NERCP.

Sarah Bird, Head of Retail Crime at the NERCP commented and said, “The introduction of SentrySIS in the North East has been of huge benefit to our retail members and partners. The system enables our network to share relevant real time crime prevention information in a secure way which assists them greatly in detecting threats to safety and stock. Working with SentrySIS also gives us the ability to integrate more effectively with other crime prevention agencies and partners including the police and local authorities, bringing more value to crime prevention in the region.”

For over half a decade, the SentrySIS platform has been used by crime partnerships and retailers successfully in neighbouring Yorkshire counties with a specific focus on Leeds, Doncaster and York.

Due to the data sharing capabilities within SentrySIS, the software offers retailers and crime partnership administration teams valuable intelligence about travelling crime that occurs across borders. This flow of information has led to a number of high profile shoplifting arrests being made by the police in North Yorkshire, West Yorkshire and Durham constabularies.

Chris Nriapia from SentrySIS commented and said, “The partnership between SentrySIS and the NERCP has offered retailers in the North East of England some real benefits when it comes to reducing retail crime. The NERCP are experts in take crime data from a number of sources and convert this into intelligence which they share with their membership. This process has allowed retailers from neighbouring towns and cities in the region to work much more closely with each other than ever before.”
