Over the last three months, Durham Police have been trialling a new online software platform by SentrySIS which allows the public to report road traffic collision incidents direct to the police.

Due to the huge success of the trial period, the software has now been rolled out across the police force area saving time for all motorists and cyclists when reporting road traffic incidents to the police. The new solution also improves the service the police offer as it interacts with the public in a modern more efficient way.

The system has been designed to take users through a series of simple steps which capture the incident details and transfers them securely to the police within minutes. This allows the police to make quicker informed judgements as to if a crime has been committed and an investigation needs to occur.

Inspector Jon Malcolm, from Cleveland & Durham Police Specialist Operations Unit commented on the system and said: ‘When calls to the police are increasing nationally, the Road Traffic Collision software has provided members of the public in our area with a quick and efficient way to report collisions they have been involved in. In turn this has freed up call handlers from these calls to deal with other issues and more immediate concerning incidents.

Inspector Malcolm continued and said: “There has been force wide efficiencies recognised as a result of the software implementation, this has been seen in the Control Room, enquiry handling teams, Collision recording and Road Policing units which again allows staff to concentrate on more serious incidents and better manage the increasing workloads.’

The new software forms part of the wider SentrySIS Police Efficiency Saving Tools that offer UK police constabularies a variety of secure and up to date cloud-based solutions that improve how the police work in a modern digital world.

Chris Nriapia from SentrySIS commented and said: “This is great news that our Road Traffic Collision Software has been well received by the people of County Durham. We purposely designed the user interface element of the software so it can be easily used by all types of computer users, even those with minimum I.T knowledge. We also achieved our police time-saving objectives by creating a solution that adds additional value to the current SentrySIS Police Efficiency Saving software suite by freeing up police personal human resource.”

Plans are already in place to further develop additional driving related software solutions for the public to communicate with the police more efficiently. These solutions include the ability to securely upload video based media such as dash and body cam footage to assist the police in their investigations.
